Lecture

This lecture will focus on the spatial volume and the constraints faced in the North Sea when creating offshore energy production possibilities. It is given by Rob van Zoelen from New Energy Coalition, who, among other things, works on the project North Sea Energy.

In this project, New Energy Coalition and other partners combine multiple energy functions into an integrated approach, to leverage synergies and develop new concepts for offshore system integration in the North Sea. The aim is to accelerate an affordable European energy transition with optimal value for both society and nature.

  • Learn about the system integration of offshore energy
  • Experience an insider perspective on innovative energy projects
  • Explore the scope of a North Sea-wide project with European partners

What is North Sea Energy?

North Sea Energy 6 The focus shifts from a national to an integrated approach to the North Sea as an international energy system, connecting offshore clusters in multiple countries. The goal is to design and analyze an integrated system for electricity, hydrogen, CO₂, and natural gas.

The project has five earlier projects phases. Read the entire project scope and earlier North Sea Energy phases on the website of New Energy Coalition here.

  • North Sea Energy 5: Focused on supporting decision-making for three Dutch offshore energy clusters.
  • North Sea Energy 4: Focused on the development of offshore energy hubs in the Dutch part of the North Sea to enable large-scale system integration.
  • North Sea Energy 3: Focused on assessing the North Sea’s strategic potential for hydrogen production and transport as part of the energy transition.
  • North Sea Energy 2: Focused on exploring synergies between offshore wind energy and existing oil and gas infrastructure in the North Sea to accelerate the energy transition and reduce costs.
  • North Sea Energy 1: Aimed to accelerate the Dutch energy transition in the North Sea region by integrating offshore wind energy with existing oil and gas infrastructure.
