Nuclear power in the energy transition

Current Issues Surrounding Nuclear Power
Lennert Goemans will respond to statements from various research groups at Entrance, focusing on the technical, economic, social, and communication aspects of the energy transition. These statements touch on the major current issues surrounding nuclear energy.

We will discuss statements from:

  • Professors Wytze van der Gaast (Professor of Economic Issues in the Energy Transition) and Marten van der Laan (Professor of System Integration), who will address the technical and economic feasibility of new nuclear power plants in the Netherlands. For example: what are the prerequisites, costs, and timelines, and how can nuclear plants fit into the current energy system?

  • Carina Wiekens, Professor of Sustainable Behaviour, and Wim Elving, Professor of Sustainable Communication, will discuss the impact of public engagement and communication: how do you involve society in complex and often sensitive decisions?

  • We will also explore the role of regulations and site selection: why are locations such as Borssele, Maasvlakte, and Eemshaven being considered?

Under the moderation of Marcel Koenis, we will bring together science, policy, and practice, with plenty of room for interaction with the audience.
