Locally generated energy must be used locally as much as possible to prevent grid reinforcement. Energy prices are expected to fluctuate more due to larger peaks in both supply and demand. Charging electric vehicles is also decentralised. Blockchain is a technology that can support these developments. It offers a platform to connect large groups of people to trade easily in products or services. The new system has the characteristics of a sharing economy.
