Energy transition in Brazil

Hydroelectric power plants provide the majority of Brazil’s energy needs. Due to climate change, there is less rainfall in Brazil. This has major consequences for the country’s energy production and costs. Expensive energy leads to more poverty, affects companies and leads to higher insolvency, inflation and unemployment. The government of right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro was not an advocate for sustainability, but there will be a new president from January: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Can Brazil turn the tables and provide a positive future outlook for their energy transition?
